Q. How do I change my VPN Client Password?
A. For employees: Your VPN Client password is the same as your Global Directory password. In order to change it, you need to access the CPS Password Management Site located at https://password.cps.k12.il.us/. Once there, enter your first and last name, employment type and click "Submit" and follow the instructions. For step by step instructions on how to change your password, please Click Here. If you are not an employee, please call the Help Desk (773-553-3925) to get your password reset.

Q. How do I use CPS's VPN Client?
A. CPS's VPN Client is designed to be used on an as needed basis. This means that in order to access an internal resource (i.e. Mapper) you will need to start a VPN Client.

To start CPS VPN Client click once on the icon in your system tray. This will launch the login screen



Press the Connect button to continue.



Enter your deleted username and password and click the OK button. If your credentials have been successfully authenticated, you are ready to access internal resources that were requested. Please note: you will be given access only to the resources requested on CPS VPN Request Form.

Q. What are the support hours for VPN?
A. For employees: Support for VPN access is limited to standard business hours only and is available through the help desk. If you are not an employee, please call the Help Desk (773-553-3925) to get your password reset.

Q. I am getting a Wrong Username or Password error. What do I do?

A. If you have successfully connected to VPN previously try resetting your password via the CPS Password Management Site located at https://password.cps.k12.il.us/.

Q. My VPN Client is not working. What do I do?
A. Please ensure you have the latest client installed and call the help desk. Let the help desk know what errors you are seeing and any changes to your network or computer since your last successful connection.

Q. What do I do if I am running Windows 98 and VPN hangs on startup?
A. Follow the directions in the Windows 98 VPN Fix Guide to reconfigure VPN for Windows 98.

Q. How do I map network drives while connected with CPS's VPN Client?
A. Open Windows Explorer and choose "Map Network Drive" from the Tools menu. At the path field enter \\server_domain_name\share_name. It is important to understand that the server_domain_name is a fully qualified domain name or IP of the server. You might need to contact a network administrator to find out exactly what that name is. At the Connect As field provide your username in the following format: domain_name\username.

Q. I am using a personal firewall at home. Will it work with the VPN client?
A. Many personal firewalls will support VPN client connectivity. In order to determine the appropriate configuration for your firewall please refer to your firewall manuals.

Q. I am trying to establish a VPN connection while behind a network filtering device (such as: firewall, router with ACL, wireless access point with filtering capabilities & etc.). What ports need to be opened on the filtering device in order to allow VPN traffic?
A. Please contact your systems administrator for assistance with the following (if applicable). The following ports (services) need to be open on the network filtering device: TCP/264 (Topology Download) IPSEC and IKE (UDP/500) IPSEC ESP (IP type 50) IPSEC AH (IP type 51) TCP/500 UDP/2746 If the issue still persists, please review the logs on the network filtering device for any possible VPN related issues and contact OTS help desk.

Q. How do I install Mapper software?
A. Directions for installing Mapper software can be viewed and printed by clicking on Mapper Directions. VPN will need to be running to use the Mapper software.
